Brooklyn, Mich. – Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch had a lot to celebrate after Sunday’s Pure Michigan 400 at Michigan International  Speedway. In a green-white-checkered finish Busch scored his series-best fourth victory of the season and clinched his spot in the 12-driver Chase for the Championship. Raybestos brakes (engineered by Alcon) now top the series point standings as well with Busch leading Jimmie Johnson by 10 points.

Kyle Busch started the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota from the 17th position and fought tight handling conditions early in the race. After adjusting during pit stops, Busch claimed the lead for the first time on lap 100. Busch stayed up front throughout the day and reclaimed the lead for the final time on lap 187.

Busch built a comfortable lead in the closing laps but a late race caution forced a restart with a green-white-checker finish. Busch got a good restart and by the time he exited turn two he had pulled away for a .568 seconds victory over Jimmie Johnson’s No. 48.

“Certainly, we’ve built our team into a championship contender this year,” Busch explained. “That’s where our strong suit has been up to this point, just being able to be consistent or at least try to be consistent. And after our bad days, we try to come back and get a top-10 to try to minimize the damage from the week before. “

Jimmie Johnson finished second behind Kyle Busch, with Brad Keslowski, Mark Martin and Ryan Newman rounding out the top-five. The Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11, 18 and 20 teams ran the Raybestos Intermediate Track Package engineered by Alcon using OSCA technology at Michigan International Speedway. Alcon designs, manufactures and provides technical support for Raybestos branded calipers, rotors, hats and hardware for use with Raybestos racing friction in NASCAR competition.
