AVONDALE, Ariz. – Although Denny Hamlin and Phoenix International Raceway historically haven’t had the best relationship, change seems to agree with both of them. In only his second race with new Joe Gibb’s Racing crew chief Darian Grubb, Hamlin and Raybestos brakes (engineered by Alcon) continued to dominate in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

“We felt great going into this race,” explained Grubb, “We knew we had the braking power we needed to be competitive and were confident about Denny’s ability on the track.”

After starting the race from the 13th position, Hamlin piloted the No. 11 car into the top five just after the first caution. Hamlin took over the lead for the first time on lap 188 during green flag pit stops but cycled back into the third position. Hamlin spent the day in the top five but when a caution came out on lap 247, pit strategy fell in the team’s favor. The team decided to stay out and restarted in the second position just behind Kevin Harvick.

Hamlin pulled away during the final 53-lap green flag run, finishing 7.315 seconds ahead of Harvick who lost fuel pressure with less than two laps left. Roush Fenway Racing’s Greg Biffle brought home a third place finish with Raybestos/ Alcon brakes, followed by Jimmie Johnson and Brad Keslowski. Hamlin’s teammates Kyle Busch and Joey Logano finished 6th and 10th.

Hamlin’s first win at Phoenix marks his 18th career victory and he currently leads the series point standings by six over Greg Biffle.

The Joe Gibbs Racing and Roush Fenway Racing cars were equipped with the Raybestos (engineered by Alcon) Short Track/ Road Course package Phoenix International Speedway. Alcon designs, manufactures and provides technical support for Raybestos branded calipers, rotors, hats and hardware for use with Raybestos racing friction in NASCAR competition.
