LONG POND, Pa. – After starting from the pole position at Pocono Raceway, Joey Logano led the most laps and captured the first victory of the season for the Raybestos (engineered by Alcon) equipped Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 Toyota.

Logano began outpacing the field after unloading Wednesday for new surface testing. He was one of the fastest drivers in testing, led the final practice Friday and went on to win the pole Saturday with a blistering track record of 179.598 mph.

After starting from the pole position the No. 20 Home Depot car stayed in the top five throughout the day. With 34 laps to go, crew chief Jason Ratcliff made the call for two tires and fuel during what would prove to be the team’s final pit stop. The longest fuel run in the race to that point had been 32 laps, but several other teams decided to take the same gamble. In a race that saw 22 pit road speeding penalties, Logano’s team performed a flawless stop and got him back out of the pits in the top spot.

Logano raced out to the lead during the next restart and when the final restart came with just seven laps to go the decision was made for the No. 20 to remain on the track. Mark Martin’s No. 55 jumped to the lead but Logano patiently waited for the chance to get back out front. With four laps to go Logano was able to get Martin loose in Turn 1 and pull away to a 0.997 seconds victory.

“Jason Ratcliff and the guys gave me one heck of a car,” Logano explained in Victory Lane. “The brake package on this thing was amazing. I was able to out-brake a lot of guys into (turn) 1 all day and make some passes there.”

Logano led a race-high 48 of 160 laps, also his personal best, and became the first driver to win from the pole at Pocono Raceway. Logano captured his second career victory just ahead of Martin, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, and Raybestos equipped teammate Denny Hamlin. Logano achieved his first career win under rainy conditions, but this win was secured under full sun and full power.  At 22 years old, Logano is also the youngest driver to win at Pocono.
